Emerald
Emerald is the mineral beryl in its intense green phase. The deeper and more intense the color, the more valuable the emerald. The majority of emeralds have some inclusions. When the inclusions are pleasing it is said to have a beautiful “jardin” or garden. To find a flawless stone is very rare. Gems are often “Emerald Cut” because of the long stick shape of the crystals. Emerald is about 7.5-8 in hardness, although inclusions make it more delicate. Emeralds were popular with the Egyptians, and symbolized rebirth, which was also a popular theme at that time.
