Ruby Gemstone Crystal
Ruby is the red variety of the mineral corundum. All other colors of corundum are called sapphire or fancy sapphire. Pure corundum is colorless, but traces of other elements create a variety of colors. The red hue of ruby is created by traces of chromium. Modifying colors range from violet, orange, brown, or pink- with a deep, vivid pure red being the most sought after.
Ruby is associated with passion and courage. Ruby is a 9 on the Moh’s hardness scale with only diamond (and moissanite) being harder. Ruby is an excellent gemstone for long term wearability.
